Tower “Paško Karadakić”

The tower of “Paško Karadakić”was built approximately during the XIX century and has a very strategic position in the village of Janjevë/Janjevo, creating a kind of triangle with the city’s Mosque and Church. It is believed that this tower was built by the Turkish Spahi family, then it was bought by the Berisha (Berisić) family, and later it was owned by Marian and Maria Karadaku (Karadakić). This residential tower also served as a prison for a period of time. The Karadakić family lived in it until 1992 when it was abandoned. It belongs to the tower with internal stairs, without a garret. It has a square plan, has three floors, and a four-bay peak. As for the construction technique, the outer walls are of the “opus vittatum mixtum” type built with irregular stones, sometimes with layers of bricks connected with lime mortar, and have a thickness of 170 cm on the first two floors up to 100 cm on the last floor. It has a rarity value because it is the only tower in the village of Janjevë/Janjevo.
