In 1856, the new Catholic church was built according to the plan of a well-known Hungarian architect. There were three churches in Janjevë/Janjevo. Three bells and two sarcophagi were found near these churches. According to Gaspër Gjini, in Janjevë/Janjevo, the documents of the year 1328 mention the “Saint Nikolla” Church, with its Catholic parish priest. The smallest bell that is still found today in the bell tower of the church of Janjevë/Janjevo, dates from 1368, and has a Gothic inscription.

The old church of “Saint Nikolla” was built in 1856. In 1885, the new church was built on the foundations of the old church. In the walls of the church built during this year, a stone slab with Latin letters, which was brought from the ruins of the old church, was walled. From a document of Clement VIII, from the year 1346, we understand that the bishop of Kotor had the right to take care of the church of Janjevë/Janjevo. As you can see, the old church in Janjevë/Janjevo is dedicated to “Saint Nikolla”. Within this church, there are also auxiliary facilities that are used by the priests. It is interesting to note that on the wall of the guest house of this church there is a stele from the Roman period, belonging to the 2nd-4th century.
