To the east of the Janjevë/Janjevo Mosque, at the intersection of “Shtjefën Gjeçovi” street, there is the house of the Matić family. Based on the size, volume, and proportions of the construction, this house represents a very characteristic and special case in Janjevë/Janjevo. In terms of exterior treatment, the distinguishing element that sets this house apart is the central corner, made of wooden pillars, and covered with a Baroque-style roof. The wooden pillars are made with woodwork and end with an arched beam, on which the roof construction is located. The arch beam is plastered, with the Latin cross carved on the main page. Six-bay roof covered with traditional clay tiles. The corner has a ceiling with triangular decorations in the four corners of the ceiling. In addition to the exterior, the interior is also made with rich wooden details, where it is worth mentioning the doors made of wood, and decorated with geometric motifs. Unlike other houses, in this house, the decorations stand out, where it is worth mentioning the six-pointed star made of wood, located in the center of the ceiling of one room. The house belongs to the Matić family, it is estimated to have been built in the 19th century, this family is considered to have been one of the richest families in Janjevë/Janjevo, and they were mainly engaged in agriculture. The late owner of the Roko Matić family was one of the first blacksmiths in Janjevë/Janjevo, while Roko’s son, Tomo, was also a musician in addition to his craft. The last owner of the house was Lune Matić who in 1991 moved to Croatia with his family and since then the house has not been inhabited.
